The exhibition Vienna Calling was created as part of the regular selection section of Vienna Design Week, which was for this year the Prague UMPRUM. The aim of the exhibition was to best present the way of teaching and creation in relation to the public. Due to the nature and conditions of the event, the exhibition focused mainly on design, applied art and graphic design studios. It presented a selection of works that seek atypical solutions, strive for a shift within their own disciplines, point out unexpected possibilities of new technologies and cross established boundaries.
The title of the exhibition deliberately evokes the 1980s international hit Vienna Calling by Vienna-born Falco. It was all the more serendipitous for us to discover that Falco lived in the adjacent Birgelogen Gasse, No. 37, until 1982.
The resulting catalogue accompanying the exhibition was based on the spacey newspaper format and the generosity of Radim Pesek's Fugue font. For the pagination, custom numerals were designed to mimic the digits of an old telephone. The off-kilter typesetting is accompanied by a graphic cover grotesquely mimicking a selection of the students' work.

Výstava Vienna Calling vznikla jako součast pravidelné výběrové sekce Vienna Design Week představující výběr škol zabývajícím se designem, kterou byla pro tento ročník Pražská UMPRUM. Cílem výstavy bylo co nejlépe představit způsob výuky a tvorbu ve vztahu k veřejnosti. Vzhledem k charakteru a podmínkám akce se výstava zaměřila především na ateliéry designu, užitého umění a grafiky. Představila výběr prací, které hledají atypická řešení, usilují o posun v rámci vlastních oborů, poukazují na nečekané možnosti nových technologií a překračují zažité hranice.
Název výstavy záměrně evokuje mezinárodní hit z 80. let Vienna Calling od vídeňského rodáka Falca. O to větší bylo náhodné zjištění, že ve vedlejší ulici Birgelogen Gasse č. 37 žil Falco až do roku 1982.
Výsledná podoba katalogu provázející výstavu, byla založená na vzdušnosti novinového formátu a velkorysosti písma Fugue od Radima Peška. Pro paginaci byly navržené vlastní číslovky napodobující číslice starého telefonu. Neotřelou sazbu doprovází grafická obálka groteskně napodobující výběr děl studentů.
